Overall i think the filming and planning process went fairly well. Of course as we filmed there were a few things we initially had decided and found that they didnt work. It was useful to plan to make sure that we did everything we wanted in the time we had. The shooting scheldule is a rough outline of when we shot but is fairly accurate. There were some things we filmed and then decided to film them again once uploaded. Shots such as the beginning shot of the footprints in the snow were some that we just decided on the moment. We made sure we got plenty of footage so we could have lots of options of what to use. We had some problems with the tripod we didnt plan access to the tripod very well and had to use alternate methods some of the time , so some of the shots were not as still as we would have liked but we did manage to get many that we did.
Video commentary and titles drawn december 09 after working with camera in preliminary ,video commentary in feb 2010 after more research of edits and music.
We wanted the music to emphasise the acting we had, using beats in music to make actions sharper and softer or louder and faster music for bigger climaxes. We wanted a piece of music that sounded a bit off edge with a heavy bass beat and helped to represent the main character's personality as the music is most heavily used in actions of this character.
We started by finding parts of songs we liked and narrowed it down to : Blood sugar-Pendulum The rapture-Echoes Closer-Kings of leon Crawl-kings of leon love lockdown-kanye west This is an emergency-Pidgeon Detectives Can you give it - the maccabees
But these songs only had certain parts we liked and found when we tried to mix them together it didnt work so well. Then we found Staring at the sun by TV on the Radio
This had just the right feel we were goin for as it starts with a heavy beat and then speeds up when the vocals join and slow down.We were originaly going to try and get rid of the vocals but this proved difficult as the frequency of the vocals was the same as the lower parts' meaning that we couldnt get rid of it without getting rif of some of the instruments aswell. However some of the vocals were relevant to our song and have cut and pasted the vocals of the track into parts which we thought enhanced the video and acted almost like a narrator. We cut the beginning with the voices as although this was effective it was too long and flat so we looped the beginning bass intro and then cut to the vocals and faded out at the end. We did this using the software programme Audacity. Here is some of the steps in pictures. The Track before we started
For the dialogue in our opening sequence we didn't want much speaking to create effect and wanted most of the sound to be diagetic from the actors movements rather than speech. We have two main scenes with dialogue these are the scene between tommy and Emma and the seen between tommy and the mysterious dealer. Dialogue for Scene between tommy and emma (brother and sister present scene)
Tommy: Hey sis i got you a present
Emma: Oh my gosh thankyou how ever did you afford it ?
In are opening sequence we have only featured three characters. There is the main character Tommy walsh we wanted him to be fairly polite looking with a roughness to him around the age of early-mid 20s. There is tommy walsh's sister who we wanted to be younger with a likeness around the age of 16. And there is the mystery character who we wanted someone fairly casual but quite strongly represented ,confident and young making . We can use this effectively in our open sequence to make the smile look cheeky to over exxagerate the presence and importance of this character and to give many possibilities of the relationship between tommy and the dealer .
