Script

For the dialogue in our opening sequence we didn't want much speaking to create effect and wanted most of the sound to be diagetic from the actors movements rather than speech.
We have two main scenes with dialogue these are the scene between tommy and Emma and the seen between tommy and the mysterious dealer.
Dialogue for Scene between tommy and emma (brother and sister present scene)

Tommy: Hey sis i got you a present

Emma: Oh my gosh thankyou how ever did you afford it ?

Tommy : Oh just somehow.

Scene with dealer and tommy

Dealer: have you got it ?

Tommy: yes

Chosen characters and actors

In are opening sequence we have only featured three characters. There is the main character Tommy walsh we wanted him to be fairly polite looking with a roughness to him around the age of early-mid 20s. There is tommy walsh's sister who we wanted to be younger with a likeness around the age of 16. And there is the mystery character who we wanted someone fairly casual but quite strongly represented ,confident and young making . We can use this effectively in our open sequence to make the smile look cheeky to over exxagerate the presence and importance of this character and to give many possibilities of the relationship between tommy and the dealer .

rough filming scheldule

preliminary task

When we shot and edited our preliminary we jsut made all the shots flow together. We picked takes we thought were most effective and edited some of the sound so more prominent parts could be heard. This gave us a good practice for our real task. Most of the filming was exact to the storyboard except we changed the establishing shot at the beginning for an action shot walking up to the door.

preliminary 2nd part of storyboard

in case you cant see this the 5th shot is and establishing shot of a dark room the 6th shot is a medium shot of the back of the chair the 7th shot is a mid close up of the 2nd actor and the last shot is a extreme close up of a gradual smile.
i realise that the quality of the storyboard uploaded on the blog are poor and am currently finding another way of uploading them this is a hard copy and a rough outline of our preliminary.

Preliminary task 1st part of storyboard

if you cannot see clearly on the copy the priliminary as planned in the storyboard above starts with an establishing shot and then a low angle shot of one of the actors feet while walking then a panning shot from their feet to the bottom of their face adn tehn a close up of the hand opening the door.

Location Planning

For our film we would like to set it around a scene that the dealer would be seen to walk in every day as part of two worlds,a teenagers everyday life and a dealers life. We wanted to set it at a place maybe just outside the city in the suburbs. We have chosen an area near the town we live in for these houses as this looks like the houses we are using in our film . We want shots of the dealer walking thoruhg his everyday life and then going through more dangereus areas to where he works . We need two inside shots one of the actors in their house and one of the dealer actor and other actor in the enclosed room .

Film titles

We had already preliminarily decided the title of dealer but realise now that this could be a bit basic and not as catching to the audiences view.

The film is based on the tale of a failed athlete who seeks dealing drugs when his mum and dad repel him. Closely bonded to his sister and a few close friends Tommy Walsh is faced with a deal that might take him off the rails for good. Set in small suburbs outside the large dealing city of london we explore whos really the cunningnest of dealers and the emotions and actions they have to go through from the short risk of everything to nothing.

Feedback on titles for the film would be very helpful dont be afraid to critisise here are the options.

Institutions for thrillers

There are many institutions in which films are produced some of the more well known ones are insitutions such as warner bros, working title and universal pictures. For our film we would like a sustainable budget for important effects and well known actors to bring star quality to the film. An institute i feel does this well and has lots of experience in creating thrillers is universal pictures.

UNIVERSAL PICTURES

The company is international therefore being able to distribute the film in several countries. It has created many thrillers and is involved with alot of companies owning part ownership to other such as some of the hitchcock films including physco. It has universal studios where alot of film work is displayed . It has produced many thrillers such as angels and demons, beautiful mind, war of the worlds and the italian job. It was one of the first major conglamorates to use CGI and 3D and will be effective for creating a good quality picture for our thriller.

With further research into the institutions of our film we have decided that we do not need as bigger budget as universal studios presents. We looked into the budget of a similar film, layer cake which had a budget of £4 million. This would effectively be about the same as what we would need as we dont need many stars, one would be enough to bring in star quality we dont need many special effects and do not to film abroad or have the same setup as some of universals films. A larger budget will not nesscarily make our film better we need a realistic amount to be able to gain profit with the material we have. Compared to the £76 million pound budget of Angels and Demons. Layer cake was made by a small institution called columbia pictures which sony pictures owns. A british institution we found that can effectively produce and advertise our film in the uk and possibly internationally with a reasonable budget of around £5 million is Miramax pictures.

Brassed off was co produced with film four and miramax pictures we are planning to do the same with our film. Film four had its own channel and does many production features with film four so alot of publicity and promotion can come from this institution. Miramax has the ablilty to produce the film without too many restrictions and a viable budget, income and profit.
